PHOENIX, AZ (November 29, 2023) – Fresh Start is honored to announce the 29th Annual Fresh Start Charity Golf Classic presented by Valley Toyota Dealers raised over $480,000 to help Arizona women achieve self-sufficiency. On Friday, November 3rd, the Fresh Start Men’s Board hosted over 200 golfers at the beautiful Talking Stick Golf Club in support of the nonprofit’s mission to empower women.
Fresh Start and the Men’s Board extend their deepest gratitude to all who participated in the tournament and the incredible presenting sponsor Valley Toyota Dealers, who has been a loyal partner to Fresh Start for over a decade. This year, Valley Toyota Dealers generously donated a 2023 Toyota Highlander LE as a tournament raffle item. All proceeds from the raffle went to support Fresh Start and the women they serve.
Under the leadership of Golf Tournament Chair, Shad Lappe, and Men’s Board Chair, Joe Percuoco, the Fresh Start Men’s Board put on a fun and successful tournament. “Fresh Start truly changes lives. With their comprehensive programs, the nonprofit organization helps thousands of women every year adopt long-term behaviors that promote physical, mental, and emotional wellness. This is vital work. Changing the world starts with care, and we can all start right now,” says Lappe.
All of the funds raised from the Charity Golf Classic will directly benefit Fresh Start’s programs. Fresh Start supports women on their journey to self-sufficiency and drives multi-generational change in the Arizona community by providing services in five key areas: Family Stability, Health & Well-being, Financial Management, Education & Training, and Careers. The nonprofit remains dedicated to helping women use their strength to thrive as they pursue personal and professional goals.

Fresh Start’s mission is to provide access and resources that help women achieve self-sufficiency and use their strength to thrive. Our ultimate vision is to create unlimited opportunities for women. Over three decades, Fresh Start has supported more than 50,000 Arizona women, serving approximately 3,000 women each year, who are 18 years and older. 86% are mothers, 60% are single mothers and 64% are women of color. These women face a variety of barriers hindering their ability to be personally or financially self-sufficient, including domestic violence, generational poverty, and unemployment.
