My Sister’s Closet CEO and founder Ann Siner has donated $200,000 each to the Arizona Humane Society and Fresh Start Women’s Foundation.
Siner, who donates the funds through her non-profit My Sisters’ Charities Thrift Store, is supporting the Humane Society’s spay/neuter program to help families that cannot afford veterinary care but want to reduce the pet overpopulation in the Valley.
“Ann is truly a cornerstone in the philanthropic community who continues to lead the way in giving Arizona’s homeless pets a brighter future,” said Dr. Steven Hansen, Arizona Humane Society president and CEO.
“AHS is incredibly grateful for Ann and My Sisters’ Charities Thrift Store for helping us save 22,000 of the Valley’s sick, injured and abused pets each year.”
Since its founding more than 30 years ago, Fresh Start has advanced its mission of providing education, resources, and support for women to positively transform their lives and strengthen the community.
Fresh Start’s vision is for every woman to reach their full potential by achieving personal empowerment and financial self-sufficiency.
“This generous donation helps Fresh Start support and empower more than 4,000 women a year, offering life-changing access and resources toward achieving self-sufficiency and becoming heroes in their own lives,” said Kim McWaters, president/CEO of Fresh Start.
To date My Sisters’ Charities Thrift Store has donated $399,000 to Fresh Start.
Siner began her donations to the Arizona Humane Society in 1996 and has given $1.55 million in cash donations and $1.25 in-kind donations during those 27 years.
My Sisters’ Charities, is a 501c3 organization that sells unsold goods from My Sister’s Closet, My Sister’s Attic and Well Suited. In 2022, My Sisters’ Charities netted roughly $500,000.
Those monies only go to nonprofits that benefit homeless pets, wildlife, and women.
“We started My Sisters’ Charities Thrift Store many years ago as a nonprofit with the sole purpose of giving back to causes that benefit pets, wildlife, and women,” said Siner. “Now nearly 8-years later we have been able to make a tremendous impact because of our consigners who choose to donate their clothes in lieu of picking up the items that don’t sell.”
Fresh Start’s mission is to provide access and resources that help women achieve self-sufficiency and use their strength to thrive. Our ultimate vision is to create unlimited opportunities for women. Over three decades, Fresh Start has supported more than 50,000 Arizona women, serving approximately 3,000 women each year, who are 18 years and older. 86% are mothers, 60% are single mothers and 64% are women of color. These women face a variety of barriers hindering their ability to be personally or financially self-sufficient, including domestic violence, generational poverty, and unemployment. Through our award-winning Impact Program, Fresh Start offers focused programs, services, access to training and education, as well as employment and career services to help women reach their personal and professional goals.
