Adriana

“Fresh Start was a safety net as I tried new things and grew and expanded more of what I thought I can do.”

Adriana* was inspired to contact Fresh Start after hearing a speech given by a former client. Despite some anxieties about putting herself out there, Adriana applied to the Women in Finance cohort beginning in Summer 2024.

“The former client was encouraging everyone that if they felt like they weren’t worth it, to just take the class anyway and go through the process. I’m proudest of doing that: going into class day in and day out.”

Within the doors of Fresh Start, Adriana was thrilled to have the support of her new community, especially from the other women in her class.

“I was surprised by how friendly and supportive my classmates were because sometimes women can be competitive, but everyone was nice. It helped me to continue.”

Adriana had to put down the heavy layers of her imaginative armor to fully embrace the immersive experience created by Fresh Start and the Women in Finance program.

“It’s not fully gone away, and it still comes back on, but I had to learn to set it aside and let the process carry itself out. That was a big one.”

The more Adriana learned the financial fundamentals in the Women in Finance program, the more her self-confidence grew.

“I’ve accomplished gaining some confidence in the world and business. I feel like I can stand a little straighter and share a bit more of what I have to offer and not feel so intimidated.”

After completing the program she felt more capable of entering the workforce confidently, and with the new skills to back it up on her resume, she was even more empowered.

“[The program] helped me grow my confidence to know that I can do this. I can do the resume, cover letter, and elevator pitch. I can learn things about the banking industry.”

Through her weeks in the course, Adriana saw a world of possibilities open up as she realized that her education had ripple effects on those around her.

“I feel like now I’ll go for opportunities and try harder to achieve a bit more than I would have in the past. That affects a lot in my community. Maybe I can do more good in the world because I was empowered here [at Fresh Start].”

If she hadn’t found Fresh Start and taken the leap of faith to try something new, Adriana feared she would still be scared to face the world.

“I was scared before, and this helped me face a lot of fears and grow. I was trying to move forward but if I hadn’t found Fresh Start, I’d probably be more behind. The support here has helped me a lot.”

In moments of opportunity, she continues to share her Fresh Start story with other women in her community.

“I talk about my experience; the women and staff here are supportive, and there are a lot of resources… They (Fresh Start) really hold your hand in a good way. They take you step-by-step, meet you where you are, and help you grow.”

Adriana hoped that other women looking for resources would find Fresh Start and know they deserve the help, support, and community they seek.

“Love and support is out there, and the journey doesn’t end at the lowest point of your life… We’re not meant to do this alone… Be open-minded and look forward to how you can grow and heal.”
